Greetings!

Welcome to our project site! We are Team B4 of the CMU course ECE Design Experience, and this site serves as a portfolio of our ECE Capstone Project: Taichine.

As a subgenre of traditional Chinese Kungfu, Taiji (also known as Tai Chi) is known for its plenty health benefits. However, practicing and doing Taiji correctly is no easy feat. If you learn simply by watching videos and never receive any feedback from an instructor, it is very possible that you’re doing your Taiji pose incorrectly without knowing. But, well, instrutors have their own schedules, and they also might offer incorrect teachings… Anyway, you’re just too lazy to seek advice from an instructor!

Our group, aware of this situation, propose Taichine–a Taiji instrutor tool using graphical machine learning to analyze if your Taiji pose accurately matches one from the 24-form-Taiji sequence. The system takes in posture information of the subject in real time and evaluates if each pose you performed is of desirable quality, so that the health benefits are truly obtained.

Our goal is to offer a convenient and autonomous pose evaluation tool for Taiji ethusiasts.  Taichine will guide you step-by-step through a Taiji sequence, and users can know how well they are practicing. Moreover, the system will be affordable and portable, so it can be used in both indoor and outdoor environments as long as it is not too crowded.

Feel free to browse through this site and see you in the next post!
