JP Weekly Status Report (2/20/2021)

This projects gets more and more interesting as we start to unpack the technical challenges of idea. I spent this week helping with the proposal slides and configuring our github repo. I was able to get out VS project to build with our necessary camera and opencv dependencies and tested the ellipse detection on sample images. Realized some filtering is needed for our image processing, but I am very hopeful for the object detection process.

Introduction and Project Summary

Due to the social distancing requirements, it is almost impossible to play a safe game of cup pong.  People haven’t been able to play for so long, they are most likely losing their skills. This is where the Automatic Gentleman comes in. A worthy cup pong robotic opponent. The Automatic Gentleman can detect the cups from across the table and adjust its launching mechanism to consistently hit ping pong balls into its opponents cups.

Design Goals:

Cup Edge Detection + Depth Sensing: Using a camera with depth sensors to  detect cups and find their position relative to the robot in the real world

Motion Planning + Projectile Dynamics: Using a customized launcher to launch ping pong balls with high precision into targeted cups
