Ashika’s Status Update for April 11

This week, for the storytelling component alone, I finally finished grammar correction for nouns and I worked on creating a few more templates. I changed the format slightly to improve sentence tokenization, which makes it easier to send the story sentence by sentence to the display. Here is a new one I finished:

Between now and demo day, I hope to have at least 14 stories finished (8 more) so that we can get a good variety for testing and our demo. Apart from this, I spent most of the week working on integration with Jade and Abha. Jade and I worked on getting the sentence information from the storytelling program on the laptop to the audio input/output on the raspberry pi. We started creating a protocol for sending and receiving information. Because I do not have any of the hardware, Jade wrote the code and tested it on the pi, but I helped over Zoom. I also began helping Abha getting the display working. Once again, only she has the hardware, but I helped her install and set it up over Zoom.

I am still on schedule. For my component, all that is left for our MVP is template making and testing. For the next week, I will be focusing on helping my teammates with integration as best I can. In particular, once everything is set up, I need to tune synchronization parameters and code a working protocol to improve the user experience. If I find myself with a little slack time after this, I will try and make improvements to the storytelling algorithm, but I am quite satisfied with its performance as of now. I will spend the last week of the project on story cohesion testing.
