The WaveShaper is a digital synthesizer designed to offer compact sound design for live performance through clear visualizations and intuitive controls. This instrument allows musicians to use electronics to generate sound signals, enabling them to create their own instruments! Through the WaveShaper, new and experienced keyboard players will have the chance to engage with a fast and approachable sound synthesizer.
To make the synthesizers quicker to program, the WaveShaper connects to the user’s computer via a standard USB interface, providing live visualization of the audio signal alongside various control options. By offloading much of the interface to the computer, the hardware can remain inexpensive while still offering broad functionality at low cost. Additionally, leveraging the familiar environment of the user’s computer helps ease the learning of our particular control-interface.
We aim to present both a fantastic option for compact on-stage sound, and an approachable design for those unfamiliar with musical synthesizers. We hope to design an instrument any musician could find themselves coming back to!
