Vivian’s Status Report for 2/26

This past week I began prototyping and testing some of our sensors. I soldered pins onto the gyroscope and soldered prototype ends to one of the buttons to test the process for the PVC controller. I also wired up 9 simple buttons (not the ones we plan to use in our final implementation) and wrote Arduino code to write the button values into an array. I plan to use this simple setup and code to send to the RPi via bluetooth once Angel gets it working.

I had previously written code to test the gyroscope, but during testing I didn’t get the results I expected. I’m currently printing out the gyroscope readings for the x, y, and z axes to the serial monitor, but the readings don’t match with the movement of the gyroscope. I’m hoping to do more testing next week to determine whether the gyroscope or the code is responsible for this.

I’m a little bit behind schedule at the moment. I was hoping to start testing the breath control this week, but we haven’t gotten the photodiode in from Amazon yet. I was also hoping to get real results from the gyroscope this week, and I wasn’t expecting to run into trouble with that sensor. I should be able to catch up next week by doing some more testing on those two sensors, and pushing wiring more buttons to after spring break.

Next week I hope to test and calibrate the breath sensor, and determine the issue with the gyroscope. I will also be spending time with my team to complete the written design review.
