Vanessa’s Status 4/13

This week we had our last reading assignment and discussion on Monday. It was interesting to learn about realization and production phases with real examples.  I found a software that can replace Garageband which is Ableton Live. Although it is not a free software, I was able to try using it through 30-days free trial. Unfortunately, it cannot detect the bpm of the recorded performance (which I hope we could do without making calculations from raspberry pi), but I can…

Team’s Status 4/13

Our team is still on schedule based on our updated schedule from the mid-semester demo. So far, no major risks have come up and major contingency plans haven’t been formed. In general, the risks are that something just becomes trickier or take longer than we expected so our schedule will be compensated and we will need to reevaluate needs at the time and how to adjust our schedule. No changes were needed to be made to the block diagram. Certain…

This week I was working on a GUI interface for the client side of our project. Our team discussed what should be included here earlier this week and we decided on the path to the pdf, the song name (since I am not recognizing it), the speed (1-5), and whether to play with only treble, base, or both. I worked on making it pretty, and while it is not the most stunning UX, I think it comes across pretty nicely….

Accomplishments for week 12: Completed Beats-per-minute conversion to 5 fixed options (Very fast, fast, medium, slow, Very slow) in my code as well as for performance evaluator code. We decided on creating one front end GUI (on Lizzy’s side) for user to select their options and these selections will be sent in a text file to the Pi and also the performance evaluator for optimal performance. Receiving of Text file indicates start of LED teaching module for that outputXML song…

This week I worked on fixing bugs of performance score evaluator. Because we had our demo on Monday, we met earlier to have a run through. One of our problems was that I wasn’t able to compare two files with different bpm. Thus, just for the demo, I manually calculated the bpm of our LED matrix and set Garageband’s bpm before recording the user performance. Moreover, while testing before the demo, I realized that there was another bug in my evaluator;…

Accomplishments for Week 11: Added menu features and welcome features to the start of the piano teaching module code. Displays name of song being played. Added automation features to start playing outputXML.xml file when found in correct folder after execution. Added features to take complexity choice input of Treble, Bass or Both from user as well as input about Beats-per-minute to be incorporated into module algorithm so that the Performance Evaluation program can correctly determine score. Video recorded for start…

Well, not going to lie, this week I did nothing on the Captone itself. I got a concussion last Thursday and have been banned from looking at screens and electronics by the UHS doctor. I will be making up the work in the coming weeks as my other classes pair down. Even doing this status is going against the wishes of the doctor’s and is currently giving me a worse headache, but thought I should put it up quickly anyway.
