Mitchell Update 2/17-2/23

Mitchell Update 2/17-2/23

This week we received our first shipment of parts including a memory card for the pi and an ultrasonic sensor.

  • I installed Raspbian on our pi and began setting it up with sensors.
  • Setup the camera using raspistill and as a team we tested the camera. We simulated jogging with the camera sensor and captured images. We tested for latency, blurriness with movement and focal length would meet our ranges for this project.
    • The focal length worked, the camera has a built-in adjustable lens
      blurriness was minimal
    • Latency is currently an issue. The raspistill is slow to take a photo since it takes pre-photos to adjust white-balance and aperturebefore each photo.
      • To fix this we are looking into more lightweight camera packages or using still frames from a video rather than a camera command.
  • I did research into finding a viable chest and waist harnesses.

  • Worked on setting up interface with Ultrasonic and Pi but not complete

Time table:
On schedule, with the exception of the ultrasonic sensor testing, but we plan to work as a team first thing next week

Next week deliverables:
Ultrasonic sensor testing ability, LiDar sensor testing ability, Design presentation slides, and final draft on our sensor configuration.
