SynapSys is a brain-computer interface (BCI) designed to provide a new way to communicate for people whose ability to speak has been impaired by conditions such as ALS. Rather than attempting to decode complex thoughts or internal speech, the project focuses on detecting intentional and repeatable patterns in brain activity. These signals can then be translated into essential messages such as “yes”, “no”, and “help.”
We are building a system that acquires signals via an 8-channel EEG custom analog PCB, digitizes and processes the data on an embedded controller, evaluates command confidence against predefined thresholds, and outputs the message through an application.
Our goal is to provide a low-cost, accessible, open-source solution that restores the dignity and autonomy for those who lost their ability to speak. By translating simple intentional thoughts into real-time speech, the device gives patients a voice to express their needs and feelings.
