Team’s Status Update for 10/3
One of the main concerns we have for the week is the additional hardware we may need to purchase. Currently Edward is using the Jetson TX2, which is more powerful than the Jetson Nano but they do have different port requirements. The TX2 can support up to 6 MIPI input cameras but only with a breakout board which is insanely expensive. Our current solution is for Edward to continue developing from the TX2 with the single camera module until it is necessary that we need another Nano. It is possible that he will not need one at all if Heather and Anna can run the programs Edward writes.
We are on track with setup so far — Edward and Heather with their Jetsons and Anna with their microphones. However, Anna did come to realize that implementation sound detection and acoustic location would take much longer than anticipated, so we’ve adjusted the schedule to show how that will be further broken down and how much longer it will take. Aside from that, the schedule will remain as it is, and our next big hurdle is the design presentation, which is fast approaching. We aim to have the mechanical design down with some basic movement achieved by the end of this week.
One additional thing that we have decided to remove from our project is the use of voice commands. We thought it would be very interesting to do but from the feedback we received from staff and peers, it seems to be very implausible in the time frame we are given. It might be interesting to make use of a system that already has voice commands like the usage of a Google Home device but that is something we originally set out as a stretch goal so we will revisit this idea later on in the semester after we have a base prototype done.
