This equipment is intended to allow students who are unfamiliar with magnetic hysteresis to quickly and simply gain insight into this phenomenon. It also allows students to refresh their experience with the generation of magnetic fields by wires. The set-up consists of a magnetic core wound with primary and secondary turns and mounted in a small box. The primary is driven with the function generator while the secondary is monitored with the scope. A computer interface is provided which plots the drive current versus the integral of the output voltage. This set-up requires no DC power supply as no additional amplification is used. |
