Team Status Report 4/23/22

This past week we worked to get the project together to its final form. We finished up the physical box/ enclosure and the prototype. We also got the algorithm to work and made adjustments to the heart rate and acceleration sensitivities based off of our testing and false positive/ false negative rates. Moreover, we did other preliminary tests such as checking to ensure that our start/ stop delay times were within the 15 second bounds we set out to do. Finally, we ran into issues with our heart rate monitor where it gives inconsistent read outs. After experimentation and an attempt to implement with a Fourier Transform, we decided that we may need to attach the heart rate monitor to the ear as it gets its best signal there. Moreover, we can detect when the heartrate monitor gives an inconsistent readout and thus only take into account the heart rate monitor information when we get a consistent readout. This next week, we will put finishing touches on the frontend as well as try to adjust the heartrate monitor to the best of our abilities. Moreover, we will put together the final presentation folder.

This week as a team we worked together to wrap up integration of the project. We worked on the soldering of new heart rate device, the algorithm of data coming in, and also the front end user feedback. In the coming week, we will be working closely with some of our friends who have not used this app, to test out our device and application to see what are the tweaks needed in the algorithm, user experience, and any changes on the hardware devices.

This past week we each continued working on our respective parts so that we can get to integration as fast as possible. We figoonished up the frontend part which is not linked to the smart contracts. The smart contracts are also ready to be integrated with the frontend. We are mostly on schedule but need to put in a good bit of work integrating the frontend and smart contracts.

This past week we continued building out each of our respective components while helping each other debug. Lev made decent progress on the smart contracts, Austin hooked up the Arduino to the sensors and was able to get measurements. David has been getting the desktop app GUI ready. Otherwise, we ordered a few spare parts, due to concerns with using an ECG sensor for the heart rate. We are currently on schedule. For next week, we each hope to finish our respective individual component parts so that we can start integrating them together. I.e. we will connect the smart contract and desktop app and the Arduino with the desktop app.

Team Status Report 2/26/2022

This week, we worked on our design presentation and also our design documentation. We are able to finalize a lot of the metrics we are trying to use and also the algorithm.

One risk that came up this week was actually related to the Ukraine situation as our ECG sensor is being delivered from Ukraine. Currently, it shows that it has been shipped out of the country, but in case there are other issues, we will have to look into other options. Our contigency plan is to explore other potential options for ECG sensors and also potentially looking at other heart rate monitors that could be delivered from other regions.

Team Status Report for 2/12/2022

The most significant risk that could jeopardize the success of our project is if the metrics we choose to monitor (heart rate variability, noise, acceleration) to determine whether the user is concentration do not actually correlate with concentration. The risks are managed by having our algorithm be easily updatable in case we need to swap out sensor measurements, (e.g. measure average eye movement instead of heart rate variability). Our contingency plan would be to vary the sensors we use.
