There are over 11 million deaf people in the United States alone. Many deaf people turn to ASL to communicate with others without a verbal obstacle. However, most non-deaf speakers do not understand ASL, thus limiting communication between deaf and non-deaf speakers.
We present EchoSign, which seeks to bridge the gap between deaf and non-deaf speakers. EchoSign is a product that allows ASL signers to communicate their language verbally automatically. It operates by having glove sensors that can detect the intricacies of human signage. Then, these readings are sent to a signal processing backend which translates the signed movements into English. Then, the English is verbally produced through a speaker to allow for communication between these two groups.
