Introduction and Project Summary

Keeping track of medicine, especially with growing age, can be quite challenging. This is why we decided to create Magic Pillbox, an automatic circular pill dispensing machine paired with a self-developed app complete with Bluetooth functionality that is capable of measuring out the required daily dosage while also keeping track of when/if medication should be taken. Unlike several other smart pillboxes available in the current market, the included app will also allow remote access to allow for hands-free action when using the pillbox. With a custom size and design, this pillbox will also be much more portable than some existing designs with similar complex features. Pills of various sizes will be compatible with our device: a sliding mechanism with two sensors, one for weight and another for motion, will be used to accurately determine how many pills have been deposited into the rotational receiving tray. Our eventual goal is to implement all of the above features along with a seamless connection between the app and device so that minimal errors occur, and even so we aim to have an error-detecting feature implemented to warn users should pills get stuck along with a simple fix such that most if not all of clients of various ages and physical capabilities is able to correct the issue and continue using the device with minimal labor.
