Introduction and Project Summary

Vitaband is a wearable safety device designed for companies that employ outdoor workers, especially in physically demanding and high-temperature environments. It monitors key physical and environmental indicators such as heart rate, body temperature, dehydration levels, and sudden body movements to signal warning for heat strain or collapse. By comparing real-time data to an individual’s baseline, the system provides timely, risk-based alerts that encourage intervention before injuries become severe. Emergency alerts are sent to the user, as well as other users within a 10-meter radius through a smartphone application. This creates a local safety network that improves response time even in outdoor or remote worksites. We aim to design this wearable to be comfortable, durable, and weather resistant, and we are hoping it is suitable for large-scale deployment by employers.
