Introduction and Project Summary

Dawggles are an open-source, low-cost pair of smart goggles designed to make heads-up displays practical and accessible for everyday use. Our goal is to build a comfortable, adjustable set of goggles that can display simple, useful information such as text notifications or live captions directly in the user’s view while still allowing them to see the world clearly.

Unlike most existing AR or VR devices, which are expensive and closed to independent developers, Dawggles focuses on simplicity and openness. The display is designed to feel like it is a few inches away from the user’s eyes, with readable graphics that do not distract from normal vision. What makes this project unique is its emphasis on usability and accessibility rather than complex virtual environments. By keeping both the hardware and software open-source and limiting the system to a lightweight heads-up display, Dawggles lowers the barrier for developers and encourages the creation of practical, everyday applications for wearable displays.
