Focus Field is a desktop noise-suppressing device designed to help people sound clear and concise during virtual meetings or calls, even in busy or noisy environments.
The idea is simple: instead of trying to cancel all noise, Focus Field focuses only on the person who is actually speaking. Using a combination of directional audio and visual detection, the device identifies the speaker closest to the speaker and amplifies their voice while reducing background sounds like nearby conversations, typing, fans, or office chatter.
The goal is to make remote meetings, phone calls, and virtual interviews feel as if the user is speaking from a quiet, private space, even when they are not.
Our design prioritizes ease of use, portability, real-time performance, scalability, and affordability. Focus Field sits on a desk, connects directly to a computer (USB), and works automatically without requiring the user to wear a headset or configure complex settings. Unlike large, expensive enterprise noise-cancellation systems that are designed for conference rooms and corporate budgets, Focus Field is intentionally built as a compact, low-cost device that brings similar functionality to individual users. By taking a hardware-first approach and focusing only on what is necessary for personal workspaces, the project aims to significantly undercut the cost of existing commercial solutions while remaining easy to manufacture and scale. This makes advanced noise suppression accessible to students, remote workers, and professionals working in shared offices, dorm rooms, or home environments.
