This past week we finally got scans working! As we detail in the group report we got our different components merged and took some successful 3d scans. I implemented the two alignment algorithms I came up with last week and the standard deviation method works really well. We have a bit more work to do in terms of cleaning up the workflow, but we’re 99% there.
This week I will (finally) qualify the scans with the test object I made. I also have to give the presentation and prepare for the showcase (demo video, poster, rehearsals, etc.)
I had to learn a lot about 3D graphics (surface triangulation, resolution, etc.) in order to implement the qualification algorithms. I don’t have any computer graphics background so that was a little challenging and required a lot of reading papers and watching videos. Other then that, I felt like a lot of my work was in my wheelhouse: signal and image processing, (mechanical) rapid prototyping, and arduino/serial are all areas where I’ve done extensive work before.
