3D scanning has become an extremely useful tool across many different fields and disciplines, from studying archeological finds, modeling deformation, or generating assets for video games. That said, 3D scanners are expensive and bulky, and in general more affordable scanners have trouble scanning small objects. This leaves a gap in the market for cheap, high resolution 3D scanning solutions, particularly for small objects. Our plan is to create an open-sourced hardware-software system that uses an existing flatbed scanner, along with our custom hardware and software, to generate high resolution 3D scans. A small device will be placed onto the flatbed scanner. After the user sets up the device with the small object to be scanned, an automated process will scan and create the .obj file, which will be ported directly into Blender for any needed touch-ups.
