Introduction and Project Summary

Modern smartwatches offer a wide variety of features, however most have a key issue that scares away many users: short battery life. Landhopper seeks to be a streamlined version of an adventure watch that provides GPS tracking features while being entirely charged by the wearer’s physical activity during normal use.

The goal of Landhopper is to explore new techniques in energy harvesting while also providing a simple but useful set of features for both everyday use and remote hiking. At a normal walking pace Landhopper will be able to track and record GPS locations several times per hour, providing a timeline of visited locations or a pointer back to the beginning of your journey.
