HomeRover is a user assisted autonomous robot that helps improve the lives of people who have found their mobility impaired. HomeRover helps people pick objects up and return them to where they belong with an autonomous object detection system. On the user side there is an interface that allows the user to navigate the Rover to the vicinity of the user’s intended object. The user then simply pushes a button and the robot handles the task of picking up the object. The user can then navigate the Rover to the return location and release the object.
While there are similar products to HomeRover, HomeRover is an elegant and inexpensive solution to a household problem. Our goal is to perform 80% accuracy on object detection on a select trained subset of everyday items:
