Parth’s Status Report (3/11 & 3/4)

Personal Accomplishments

For the week of March 4, I spent a large portion of the week working on the design report. I deliberated with the team in making choices for the design reports, and spent many hours finishing the report. Further, I created the Django models for the UI and was able to establish communication with the USB ports on macs. I also tried switching the front end of our web application to Bootstrap in order to make better sliders, but I realised that it made the web-app marginally slower. Hence, I decided to stick to native CSS.

For the week of March 11, I did not do anything as I was out for Spring Break. I travelled with my team to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, where I got to talk to a small performer, who expressed a need for a better way to control the lights. The stage they were performing on used sound active lights that flashed bright colors regardless of what was going on in the music. This was an unpleasant experience for both the performer and their audience. I captured a video of the light setup, which can be seen under the team status report.

On Track?

I am on track with my progress according to our Gantt Chart, however the progress has been relatively slower. With the design report deadline and spring break, I had to take some time away from active development of my subsystem. However, it is still on track to being completed in time for integration with the rest of the subsystems.

Goals for Next Week

I plan on making significant progress in terms of development next week. I am aiming to finish the entire software interface, so that we can start integrating it with the other subsystems starting early next week. However, to achieve this, it is critical that I get to spend some time with the light rig that we ordered. While I am able to work with the IDeATe lights, they work differently from the light we want to use for our project, so I cannot finish my subsystem without the light rig. Regardless, if I am able to make enough progress, I can move on to integration earlier and come back to finish the light rig integration.
