Accomplishments for Week 5:

Setup and Configured the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ with Raspbian OS in SD card. Registered it to CMU-Device WIFI and setup remote SSH and VNC viewing capabilities.

Received Hardware Parts from Adafruit Industries. Setup 5V 10A power supply for the LED Matrix. Wired the LED Matrix to the Raspberry Pi for testing using the following suggested table.

Cloned Henner Zeller’s Open Source LED Matrix control Library:

https://github.com/hzeller/rpi-rgb-led-matrix/

Successfully ran sample demos from the Library to test functionality and flexibility of the 32×16 LED Matrix. Asked the author some questions about reduction of glitches and flickering on the board.

Sample Demo Testing done on LED Matrix:

Played around with the configuration settings of the RPi and the LED Matrix to get best viewing results. Played around with flags used in running the demos to reduce flickering.

On Schedule

Deliverables scheduled for next week:

Create own demo file to play on LED Matrix by learning basic commands to light up LEDs in the matrix from the led-matrix.h file. Add functionality to accept a MusicXML file on execution and play song data converted from that file through parsing. Vanessa will cover the conversion of data part from the OMR side. Practice on already available MusicXML files till then.

Two weeks from now:

After successfully running PianoMan teaching program on one LED Matrix (fulfilling basic requirements), buy 3 more matrices and Daisy-chain them to work in unison. A total of four 32×16 LED Matrices will cover entire 61 keys piano keyboard.
