Introduction and Project Summary

Working with electronic circuits is fundamental to learning electrical and computer engineering. Unfortunately, this comes at a cost of requiring access to a power supply, electronic components, a breadboard, etc. Furthermore, there is a clear danger to working with real electrical current. We are targeting this inaccessibility and physical danger to learning electrical engineering with Circuit Simulpaper, an application that can scan hand-drawn schematics of electronic circuits, simulate current flowing, and render the schematic as a valid or invalid circuit with labeled voltage and current values. Drawing circuits and recognizing the symbols for electrical components are important skills as an electrical engineer, which is why we want our application to scan drawings instead of providing a virtual platform to create the schematics. Ultimately, we hope Circuit Simulpaper can be used not only as a learning tool for young kids, but also as a verification tool for more experienced electrical engineers.
