Introduction and Project Summary

The global spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), has truly changed the way that we live. In order to mitigate the spread of the virus, we have transitioned to a remote environment where contact with one another is limited. This has impacted not only the way we work but also our ability to stay in shape. This has led to a rise in the popularity of at home workout options ranging from free fitness applications such as the Nike Training App to high-end workout systems such as Tonal and Mirror. We propose Falcon the Pro Gym Assistant, an affordable workout system that monitors a user’s movements through the progression of a workout and provides real time feedback by analyzing your posture with the assistance of a side-view camera and a FPGA.

Falcon is an application hosted on the user’s computer. The user will be able to choose the specific workout they are interested in, ranging from easy to hard. These workouts will consist of exercises such as pushups, lunges, and leg raises. Once the user starts the workout, they will be presented with a timer, rep counter, a model performing the exercise, as well as a live feed of themselves with feedback regarding how closely their form matches the model. The user will complete the different exercises in the workout and then be presented with simple statistics such as overall accuracy, calories burned and time they worked out as depicted in the following picture.
