Optimization hints
- Even with VirtualBox tools installed, two-directional dragging does not
work with an Ubuntu guest. Refer to
this
thread to properly add your user to the correct group for shared folders.
- Enable networking by navigating to the Devices menu (top of the window)
and, under Network, making sure that "Enable Network Adapter" is
checked.
- Increase the machines memory by going to the machine settings, and under
the System section, moving the memory slider to the maximum of the green region
(typically, recommended settings are to use about half your host machine's
memory for the virtual machine memory). You might also want to allocate more
CPU, based on your host machine capability, in the "Processor" tab.
- Enable acceleration by going to the System section of the virtual machine
settings and navigating to the Acceleration tab. In some cases, it might be
necessary to enable virtual machine acceleration in your BIOS. Use a search
engine to find how to do this.
This
is an example.
- MacOS users may benefit from using
Parallels
Desktop instead.
