Lecture 2: FPGA Hardware and Reading Discussion

Today we will discuss the current state of the art in FPGA hardware. We will discuss the rationale for designing systems with FPGAs and compare with system design using ASICs. We will then discuss the FPGA technology, including FPGA components, FPGA architecture, macros, IP, and configuration. This is an extension of a similar leture given during 18-240.
Afterwards, we will discuss the first reading assignment, Chapters 1-3 of the Pentium Chronicles.
