Design Presentation Refinement and Research (6hrs):

This week, I presented our Design Review, finalizing the presentation on Sunday by refining the quantitative design requirements, software specifications, and testing. I also spent time practicing to ensure a cohesive and polished delivery. Additionally, I spent time fleshing out our calibration and detection algorithms. As a team, we finalized the exact detection positions along with the 5 calibration poses.

While creating the design review and talking amongst my team members, I realized the that app development may take longer than expected. To mitigate potential delays, I may modify adding hours during spring break to ensure the app reaches a testable stage post-break for integration. We’ve also decided that our calibration will not include real-time feedback when the rider performs the “ideal pose” due to the bike-mounted camera setup. Since implementing the app-based feedback using the phone camera is beyond our MVP scope, I will focus on developing a well-structured onboarding guide within the app to help users achieve accurate calibration.

Mobile App Development (8 hrs): This week, I continued developing with Swift, spending time reviewing documentation, experimenting with various Swift features, and working with APIs. I focused on Apple HealthKit, and dove deeper into exploring its capabilities and researching how to integrate it best.

I’ve also been experimenting with new features by building smaller projects to help me get more comfortable with Swift and its unique syntax. I’ve been spending time following Apple Developer Tutorials to solidify my understanding with for example, UI components, models, views, etc.

On the development side, I completed a landing page and implemented user models, testing with some dummy data. Next week, I’ll focus on login and account setup pages to stay on track with the project timeline.

Mandatory Lab (3hrs): During lab this week I’ve been able to listen to other group’s presentations as well as present our own! I received valuable questions from other teams that I’ve been considering for example durability testing and the UI component during bike rides to prioritize minimal distraction.

Progress

I am on track with my progress, but with the design report due on 2/28, I anticipate being slightly behind schedule next week. To stay on track, I’ll need to dedicate some time over spring break to continue working on the app. This will ensure that Zoe and I can begin Bluetooth integration testing immediately after the break.

Next Week’s Tasks and Goals

I will spend time next week implementing the login, account setup pages, and database setup. In addition, a large chunk of next week will be spent working on the design report, ensuring it addresses all technical and logistic elements and is cohesive.
