Personal Weekly Update | Zoe | 2/8
Accomplishments
This week, I focused on the foundational research necessary to refine our project idea and ensure its viability as an ECE capstone. I structured the initial slide deck for our proposal presentation (5 hours), conducted thorough research on the components for our dual system, and ensured our core concept was well-defined.
Additionally, I set up our project website (4 hours), implementing theming and essential features to create a clean, professional platform for presenting our progress in an organized and digestible format.
On the technical side, I ran initial tests using my personal ESP32 to verify the feasibility of sending and receiving data over Bluetooth (6 hours). I successfully established communication, which will save us time down the line by confirming that one of our primary technical challenges is solvable.
Progress Status
We are currently on schedule—if not slightly ahead. Our proposal slides and speaker notes for Rita were completed on time, and we successfully presented our concept. I also compiled most of the Bill of Materials (BOM), selecting components necessary for testing a basic system while including additional parts that could prove useful as our design evolves.
Next Week’s Goals
Next week, my primary goal is to finalize and place our BOM order, ideally receiving some components early enough to begin integration testing with the Raspberry Pi and ESP32. I also plan to start working with the camera and get OpenCV up and running in some capacity. Conducting preliminary hardware tests before our design presentation would allow us to present real data as proof of concept, strengthening our case.
