This week our team largely focused on the Design Review and getting started on the groundwork for each of our sections. In preparing for our design review we were able to finalize most of the details of the hardware and software in our project system. Much time this week was spent getting the Jetson up and running. We hoped to have one of the built-in CV examples up and running by the end of the week, but we ran into a lot of snags along the way. The biggest of these hurdles was that the board spontaneously stopped connecting to the campus wired network. We spent most of the week working to determine the cause of this and a solution. Thankfully we were able to get it working, and the Jetson is fully set up for CV development.
We also began receiving parts this week. The Due arrived and we were able to get it set up and running with some example code. After that we conducted some research, and were able to get it up and running using the Control Surface MIDI library! We are considering the long term use of this library over the builtin MIDIUSB library, but as a proof of concept this bodes well for the rest of the project.
We also came up with first draft graphical designs of the headset, glove, and display GUI. We hope that having these graphics now will inform our design as we go. We also conducted research into signal processing algorithms for our sensors and purchased a better accelerometer than the one we had lying around.
Right now we are mostly on schedule. The only goal we were unable to accomplish this week is acquiring data from the sensors, but that is because they have not arrived yet. We made up for this by starting to work on tasks that are later down the road on our roadmap so that we have more slack later on. We expect that the sensors will definitely arrive this week, so hopefully that means that we can get back on schedule.
By the end of the next week we hope to accomplish quite a bit. We intend to have a first implementation of a CV detection algorithm up and running. We do not expect it to be incredibly fast or accurate, but we want to have a starting point to work off of for the rest of the semester. We also intend to have sensor data acquisition working and we hope to have begun processing the data accordingly. Finally, we hope to have the MIDI mapping boilerplate code set up and ready to receive external inputs by the end of the week. If we have extra time we will begin working on things like the video draw-over and the I2C communication between the boards.
