Gait retraining allows a patient to practice walking, running, and other large movements in a way that reduces strain on the knee joint. Patients with knee osteoarthritis and other conditions that affect knee strength usually have to commute to a physical therapy clinic multiple times a week to receive treatment [1]. In-clinic treatment can be a time-consuming and costly recovery process, especially for older patients.
LKR is a gait retraining device that is user-friendly and functional for physical rehabilitation outside of the clinic. The device consists of two wearable bands around the foot and the calf, using vibration as intuitive and immediate feedback for gait adjustment. Progress metrics will be tracked in a smartphone app for physical therapy providers to keep track of patient improvement.
