Personal Weekly Update | Rita | 3/8
Accomplishments
Design Report (10 hrs):
Prior to leaving for spring break, I spent the majority of the week on the design report: the test, validation, and project management sections along with anything pertaining to the physical mounting of the device. We met several times as a team to discuss the progress of the report and revise each other’s sections to make sure it was as seamless as possible.
Device Housing Design (2 hrs):
In order to integrate the device with the bicycle, which is planned to begin once we return from spring break, I designed the first iteration of the housing that we will 3D print. It is comprised of two parts: the top shell will hold the ESP32 and Raspberry Pi while the bottom shell will hold the battery and camera (placed at an angle to capture the legs as best as possible).
Bike Maintenance (2 hrs):
For the remainder of the project, we will be using my personal bike and since integration begins after spring break I wanted to ensure that it was ready to become part of Cyclify. Maintenance included replacing the bike stem to minimize the distance between the handlebar and the saddle, ensuring all the brake cables were fed through the frame so that our wiring does not get tangled with it, and normal bike TLC (i.e. cleaning cassette, chain, frame, saddle and replacing grip tape).
Progress Status
I have been fully on schedule for the project so far, I wanted to ensure that I had everything prepared so that I can take all the hard work Zoe and Carolyn have been putting into the hardware and software of the device and immediately begin with the design and integration. The design report took the bulk of my time these past two weeks.
Next Week’s Goals
After returning to school next week, I will be focusing on improving the integration design based on any changes Zoe makes to the hardware. We have the ethics report also due on 3/12 so that will also be working on that.
