Personal Weekly Update | Rita | 2/15
Accomplishments
- Device Integration Design and Research (5hrs): I spent my time this week researching different methods of attaching the sensors and microcontrollers to the bicycle. So far, we have decided to make a 3D printed housing for both the microcontrollers and battery, and are debating creating a sort of strap to go around the handlebars at the desired pressure collection position. Additionally, we wish to attach pieces of grip tape to where the sensors are, in order to make them seem as seamless with the rider’s current handlebars as possible. We will be placing roughly six pressure sensors on the handlebars and four on the saddle in order to detect both weight and direction of the technique deviation. We are additionally waiting on the order for the various components, and have calculated that currently the RasperryPi 157 degree camera will be sufficient to track knee movement.
- Presentation Research and Refinement (4hrs): Along with integration research, I assisted Carolyn and Zoe with the creation of the presentation and provided the aforementioned research. Additionally, we discussed potential changes to the device in case we run into any sort of deviations in our plans.
- Mandatory Lab (4hrs): Throughout the week, my team and I met with Professor Kim to emphasize the importance of being one cohesive unit and testing or prototype from end to end in order to see if the concept is viable in its current stage. As a result, my contribution to the end to end design was creating a map of where we plan on placing the various sensors, finding the numerical values to feed the position tracking algorithm, and taking various pictures to demonstrate to our users what improper form looks like.
Progress
I am on track with my progress and this week’s priorities centered around deciding how the sensors and microcontrollers will be integrated with the bicycle.
Next Week’s Tasks and Goals
I plan to spend next week ordering materials for the integration in order to test whether the current method I have been researching will be a viable solution. Additionally, we have our design report due soon, so I will be assisting my team in completing that in time for it to be delivered. During class, we will have the presentations and I will be providing feedback to my peers in order to ensure they are receiving constructive criticism.
