Introduction and Project Summary

People use Google Translate, pocket translators, or translator apps to instantly talk to people and hurdle over language barriers.

HOWEVER,  such convenience and ease does not exist for individuals who speak with sign language.

Our project seeks to provide what are essentially live subtitles for American sign language users so they can naturally converse with anyone anywhere. With a simple attachment and the built-in camera on their phone, sign language is immediately translated to English  and shown on dual screens for user to check and conversant to read. The interactions between ASL speaker and engager becomes seamless, allowing greater inclusivity of hard-hearing, deaf, or sign-language-using individuals in everyday life.
