However, a common risk of using it is for there to be a considerable amount of noise in the data. This will need to be a consideration when using the data to create a model of the room. We have been researching how to use the data properly to help make the process of using it easier.

Design Changes:

One of the changes we made was replacing the remote-controlled mount we were going to have with a stand to hold the scanner in one place, as creating a remote-controlled mount would prove to be a lot of work. We are still debating whether or not we should use an automated or non-automated stand. Because of this change, the scan will now occur from the middle of the room. This will save time and cost due to us not needing to implement a difficult subsystem. We also plan to remove furniture classification as a primary feature to focus more on the scanning system itself as that is a core function of the project.

Schedule Changes and Updates:

Schedule

We made a couple of changes to our schedule. The biggest one was the removal of a couple sections in response to our design changes. Since we decided to move our design from a moving remote controlled sensor to a mostly stationary one, the sections revolved around movement functions got cut. The furniture classification sections were removed as well.

Edits were also made to the software section to give us more time to plan and research the UI layout before finalizing anything. Though there is a good chance that the UI may need some slight adjustments over the course of the project as we fine tune how it interacts with the LiDAR data throughout development.

Developments:

Overall, this week was mostly for research and the discussion of any major design changes based on feedback we received. As such, we don’t have much to show off yet, but these steps are still important to layout a strong foundation to make the rest of the project go smoothly.

Risks: A big part of our project relies on the using a LiDAR sensor.
