{"id":140,"date":"2022-03-26T22:21:15","date_gmt":"2022-03-27T03:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/course.ece.cmu.edu\/~ece500\/projects\/s22-teamb0\/?p=140"},"modified":"2022-03-26T22:21:15","modified_gmt":"2022-03-27T03:21:15","slug":"luckys-status-report-for-march-26-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/course.ece.cmu.edu\/~ece500\/projects\/s22-teamb0\/2022\/03\/26\/luckys-status-report-for-march-26-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Lucky&#8217;s Status Report for March 26, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This week I did the following tasks:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I continued to work on the detection script<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I had to make reconsiderations and adjustments to the code I have written \/ been working on given the concerns explained in the next following section titled \u201cThings I ran into worth considering\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Raised my concerns and spoke to my team about the design choices<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Things I ran into worth considering:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">User item customization<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cons:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Can reduce accuracy of system<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Can institute ethical issues<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pros:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Enables users to customize to their store needs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faster system that does not go through a large set of products that aren\u2019t even available in store<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A system that has all of the store\u2019s available products<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Possible solutions:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Allow store owners to capture new images from their live feed i.e. add new items to dataset from live feed<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cons:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Can add ethical issues<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Misuse: unsolicited images taken of customers i.e. pervasive \/ private images<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If images are added globally<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Need additional infrastructure to protect against things such as predatory images that intentionally mismatch, inappropriate images, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Requires a separate local data storage abstraction \/ subsystem if images are not uploaded globally<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Will most likely add complexity that could be avoided with different design choice<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Can reduce accuracy of system<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have a universal set of items we have tested and pre uploaded data on our side controlled by us, then allow local systems to select from those pre-validated items<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cons:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We may not have all items that a store needs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We will have a large data need that may have more items then users even use i.e. what if our customer base is mostly produce, but we have numerous items in home improvement =&gt; inefficient data storage<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have to add the necessary back end infrastructure and integration with the detection system to handle that =&gt; may be something to consider after mvp<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pros:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No security concerns of uploaded items \/ images from users<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No accuracy concerns of uploaded items \/ images from users<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No ethical concerns of uploaded items \/ images from users<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In terms of schedule, depending on how testing goes upon completion of this second phase of object detection, I think I should be good on schedule.
