Team Status Update for 02/22

This week we actually got started on setting up and working with the raspberry pis. A major issue we realized this week was again … lack of time. We didn’t realize how long it would take to do some of the tasks we assumed would be simple, for example, it took us a long time to figure out how to connect the pis to the CMU wifi. Now we’re really understanding how important the slack time we budgeted in was.

We haven’t made any major changes to our design of the system, but this week we made significant progress fleshing out the detailed design and interfaces (especially since we’ve been working on the design review documents). The only major component we realized we might want to add is a Motor HAT and use a different type of motor that we planned on using. We realized the python libraries compatible with the Motor HAT would make controlling our motors much easier, so we’re still evaluating but plan on deciding this weekend and potentially ordering these on Monday.

The only real change to our planned schedule is it seems like we’ll end up designing the physical platform a little later than expected, but still plan on doing it before spring break.

Only thing we have to brag about was our Raspberry Pis FINALLLYYY worked on CMU-DEVICE network!! It took us longer than we expected to set this up, but now (this week and next week) we can start communicating with the motors and communicating between pis.
