Team Status Update, 2/23
This week we focused mainly on starting to test our parts and deciding logistics of our work schedule.
We discovered that the roomba available for borrow was a Create 1, made in 2007. In addition to the specs being subpar, there is also little documentation available online for that model. Most supported projects, datasheets, and discussions online are using the Create 2. Therefore, we returned the roomba and requested a purchase of the Create 2.
The RPLIDAR is great and works fine from a preliminary test.
The Pi required some specific setup to get working, such as an hdmi/mouse/keyboard, a microSD card, as well as an adapter to write the boot data to the microSD. We plan to get this up and running on Monday.
The main risks at this point are:
- Processing power. Mitigation options include a second Pi, lower framerates, slower mapping speed, or a more efficient language.
- Ramp up. We tried to get parts as soon as possible to begin learning the SDKs and how they can be integrated. We also requested the AWS space already.
We have made no significant changes to our design or schedule.
