Welcome to our ECE Capstone project for 18500!
Our project aims to make smart homes available for everyone, regardless of internet connectivity. Current smart home solutions generally involve a set of devices that interact with a central smart hub device, and a cloud backend to control everything. While this is simpler to develop and works in most cases, if your internet connection goes down, you lose the ability to control your smart home.
We propose a solution to fix this problem that involves shifting everything that is traditionally done on the cloud backend onto the smart devices themselves. This eliminates the need for both a smart hub and internet connection, ensuring that your home will be fully functional in more situations.
Meet team A6
Our team consists of Niko Gupta, Rip Lyster, and Richard Deng.
- Niko is a senior in the software concentration, with a focus on firmware and operating systems. He has experience working on system daemons and will be taking the lead on the system interaction layer.
- Rip is also a senior in the software concentration, but with more of a focus on embedded systems design. He will be taking the lead on smart device development and hardware integration.
- Richard is also a senior in the software concentration. His focus is on cloud infrastructure and deployment along with webapp development. He will be taking the lead on the project’s webapp.
