Introduction and Project Summary
One of the biggest challenges facing swimmers who are trying to improve is tracking their progress. It is incredibly difficult for a coach to record splits for more than a few people at any given time, and swimmers can’t reliably remember their splits to write down at the end of their workout. This is a problem that faces anybody from age-group clubs to masters swim teams, and from the NCAA athlete to the recreational swimmer.
To solve this problem, we are developing a tool for tracking swimmers throughout their workouts. In particular, we plan to use aerial video footage of a pool to measure and record splits and distances as well as to identify strokes that swimmers are swimming. The data that’s collected will be packaged up and passed to a web app, which will provide a clean user interface to view and analyze a swimmers workout.
