This past week I accomplished several things with respect to the capstone project. For development purposes, I temporarily obtained a pair of raspberry pi cameras to test their functionality. Reading through the API, I was able to get the raspberry pi camera to stream video, capture images and record video, however all locally. Also concerning the raspberry pi, I was able to obtain registration for the device on the CMU-DEVICE network, so that it could connect to the internet. Unfortunately, the CMU-DEVICE wireless network does not allow for public IP addresses, and as such, I had to register my own laptop onto the network so that I could develop on it. This posed a minor setback as, in my experience and the experience of my partners, the CMU-DEVICE network is not the fastest, which be a factor which we cannot control for in the latency of the data sent. Finally, the last thing I did this week was visit the Design and Fabrication lab to figure out the requirements for using a vacuum former. The intention was to use a vacuum former to create a higher production quality chassis. The lab technician at the time mentioned that the dFab lab is for the most part reserved for students of the School of Architecture, however, he said that I should talk to his boss during his hours. I returned during the hours, however the manager wasn’t there, so I will return again next week. For the coming week, I want to be able to send photos between my laptop and the pi, as I think this would be a logical and important next step.
