SoilSphere is a low-cost, solar-powered device that helps gardeners, small farmers, and students understand what’s really happening in their soil – without needing any expensive lab equipment. The system sits in your garden and continuously measures things like the geases released from the soil (carbon dioxide and ammonia), how much oxygen and moisture are in the soil, the soil’s temperature, and how much sunlight the area gets. All of this data gets sent wirelessly to a mobile app, which then turns the raw numbers into plain-English advice – is the soil getting too much or too little water, is it over-fertilized, is it getting enough air and light, and which crops or plants would actually thrive in it.
What also makes SoilSphere unique is that it doesn’t just report data, it also acts on it. If the readings show the soil is too dry or the nutrients are off, the system automatically waters or fertilizes the soil for you, using small pumps connected to water and nutrient reservoirs. And because it’s solar-powered with a battery that can last through several cloudy days in a row, it’s designed to run outdoors on its own with minimal upkeep. Our goal is to give people an affordable, “set it and forget it” tool that takes the guesswork out of growing healthy plants.
