Alex’s Status Report for 12/7

This week I worked on creating the final slideshow and practiced what I was going to say for the presentation. I believe it went pretty well and I was able to accurately cover what I wanted to say. After Monday, I moved on to helping the group as a whole complete the remaining parts of the project. This includes fully implementing the CV,  helping debug and giving ideas to Michael for the software part of the game, testing the controller and helping build the final hardware design.

I am very excited to show off our completed project on Monday. The project will be completed on time and it will be extremely fun. I hope everyone enjoys playing our game!

Alex’s Status Report 11/22

This week we were able to get the wifi connection working from the arduino to Michael’s computer and are now able to use a battery, although not the battery we are planning on using, to power the arduino. I am now working on sending data from my computer to Michael’s but I have not found the best method for actually sending the data. I also attached the wrist strap to the frisbee and tested it out. Our testing ended up breaking the wrist strap so we have purchased a new one in hopes that it will work better.

Next week, I will be able to send data to Michael’s computer that way he has all of the data he needs for the flight of the frisbee. Additionally, I hope to complete our testing on the way the frisbee flies.

Alex’s Status Report 11/15

This week I set up all of the calculations for the CV and started to set up the connection from the arduino to the computer using wifi. I was having a bit of trouble because of the issues with using the CMU wifi so I am trying it with my phone hotspot and it is making more progress. Additionally, we worked on setting up for our project interim demos that happened this week.

Next week I hope to have the wifi working and to work on connection my computer’s to Michael’s that way he has all of the data he needs to calculate the flight of the disc.

Alex’s Status Report 11/8

This week I looked into other computer vision models because the open pose model was not fast enough for our project. I found a new model called mediapipe and tested it out. It is able to capture the human figure much more efficiently and there is less lag on the display. This is beneficial as when we send the data from my computer to Michael’s it will be more on time.

Next week I hope to set up the data points we are trying to measure using the CV. This means calculating the distance between the person and the disc and their height in case we do not use the tof sensor.

Alex Status Report 11/1

This week on Monday we had the ethics section and I also worked on the ethics homework. Additionally we chatted as a group about the ethics of our project. I also found a better body tracking software is now working and has a much higher frame rate.

Next week, I hope to have all of the arudino code working and the ability to send the data from the arduino to the computer and take inputs into unity.

Alex Status Report 10/25

This week most of the parts were shipped and allowed us to begin testing the devices. I soldered the pieces together and helped write the arduino code that would be used for testing each of the systems that we are working.

Next week, I plan on finishing up my open pose work and trying to set up the integration between open pose and the python.

Alex’s Report for 10/18

This week I spent time setting up OpenPose and working on the design report. I now have a working version of OpenPose although the frame rate is not as good as I was hoping. I have found a more advanced version of OpenPose that I plan to try.

Next week, I hope to set up the gpu version of OpenPose or look into a new body modeling and have that working by the end of the week. Additionally, we should receive some of our parts and plan on setting them up for testing and then beginning the testing process.

Alex’s Status Report for 10/4/2025

During the course of this week I worked on the design presentation and specifically focused on the parts we are using and the gantt chart. Additionally, I looked into open pose a little bit more and we started looking at an arduino uno as we are planning on using the arduino nano for our project.

This upcoming week I am hoping to order all of the parts we need for the project after hearing the feedback from the design presentation. Additionally, I hope to start writing some arduino code that can send data to the RPi to set up the integration for further testing.

Alex’s Status Report for 9/27/2025

During the course of this week I was able to work on deciding on which sensors we are going to use for the project.  I ensured that each of the sensors can use the same communication protocol that way the microcontroller on the frisbee can connect to both easily. Additionally, I made sure that they each have a voltage that can be created using the Arduino Nano. Another task I worked on was creating some of the slides for the design presentation for this week. These included making the new gantt chart that is more detailed week to week.

I believe we are on schedule this week and will purchase the sensors this week once we receive feedback during the design presentation. That way we will be prepared to test next week before we go into the integration process.

Next week I hope we purchase the sensors and I hope to understand OpenPose and how we can implement it into the project.

Frances’ Status Report for 9/27/25

A majority of this week was researching the parts list and fleshing out how the frisbee controller would be implemented. We have settled on using a RPi 5 and an Arduino Nano ESP32 for our microcontrollers, a BNO085 Smart IMU for the IMU, and a VL53L8CX for our ToF sensor. We have also settled on using OpenPose to get spatial information that is critical to our design. I have requested the RPi 5 from the 18-500 Parts List, and I have an Arduino Uno at home that I have started tinkering around and writing code with. We are planning to order the sensors and the other microcrontroller later next week, after our Design Presentation.
The other majority of my week was used on putting together the presentation slide deck and creating our block diagrams.
