Through this project, we aim to address the gaps in air quality measurement in the Pittsburgh area by creating a sensing system that can be attached to POGOH bikes collecting air quality measurements as the bike is being ridden. This solution should allow for a wider area to be measured at a lower cost than the stationary measurement stations currently used by the Allegheny County Health Department. We don’t aim to replace the stationary measurement stations but to supplement and increase coverage of the air quality data that is available.

The scope of our project includes designing and building a durable and weather resistant box to hold the sensors and related electronics, implementing communications between deployed sensors and a central database, and making the data accessible via a map with the air quality measurements both collected by our sensors and publicly accessable data from ACHD.
